Home The Rose
Before history and definitely well before the birth of Christ, man has been enchanted by the present of this plant. It has captivated everyone, Kingsand Queens, Emperors, the ordinary man in the street, rich and poor.
This fascination probably started when Adam was thrown out of The Garden of Eden; the last thing he did, was to pick a rose for his Lady Eve.Ever since the rose became a symbol of love.
No other plant can rival or even come close to challenge the rose for not only its sheer beauty, but its exceptional great fragrance...This flower is so versatile that its blooms are many shapes, sizes and an array of colours that rivals the beauty of the Rainbow. Modern Roses are multi-coloured...I personally had a rose which started early morning as a yellow rose, by mid-day a tinge of red started at the edges and made its way down the petals, coming up from the base of the petals was a glow of pink, and by sunset it was a red rose.
Another attribute; this plant was cultivated for its medicinal qualities (purposes) and oils distilled from the Rose Petals. Bees once played an active part in cross-pollination but science has perfected the art of cross-pollinating the roses, and producing thousands of different independent Kind of Roses.
Rose plants can be genetically altered from a bush to a climbing plant, petals doubled, or petals displaying a variety of colours; this must be the easiest plant to be manipulaed, and because cross-pollination is not difficult, there are thousands of roses with different characteristics from the original or its sister plant; even the height of these plants are altered, producing what we know as Miniature Roses growing to a height of eighteen inches; as a contrast, the Tree Rose grow very tall with thick branches.
Climbing roses decorate walkways and walls but need to be tied because not being true climbers, they don't produce the tendrils or other means to secure the main limb to the wall etc.
Because of its versatility, developers will push the limits and in the near future we can expect a rose with continuous bloom, new flower patterns and colours, and above all disease resistant.
